Chief Guest of the day, Mr. Cinu P. Thomas, Managing Director, Inter CAD inaugurated the workshop. He expounded about the advances of softwares in the world of civil engineering. He quoted that “With the introduction of newly launching FEM softwares, the potential civil engineering problems can be analyzed at higher dimensions”. Mr. Cinu P. Thomas offered his whole hearted assistance for organizing such events in future.

Prof. Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, AISAT welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery presided over the inaugural ceremony. He cited that “The aim of organizing such workshops is to upraise the quality of education at AISAT to greater standards”. Dr. K. E. George, Principal, AISAT and Dr. Anil Joseph, Coordinator of the workshop delivered felicitations. Rev. Fr. Alex Kurishuparambil, Associate Manager, AISAT presented memento to the chief guest. Ms. Veena V, Asst Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering conveyed vote of thanks.
The workshop commenced with the expert lecture on finite element analysis by Dr. C. G. Nandakumar, Dept. of Ship Technology, CUSAT. He elucidated the best engineering practice which is to be followed in FEM analysis. He shared his immense knowledge and experience in the field of FEM, deep-rooted for more than two decades.
The workshop was a combination of technical lectures and hands on training on ANSYS, giving more emphasis on hands on training. The thirty participants for the workshop included various M Tech students, PhD scholars, faculties from various engineering colleges in Kerala and the practicing structural and geotechnical engineers. Prof. Renjith R, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, FISAT was the key resource person for the workshop. His transitory training on the modeling and analysis part of ANSYS was very much beneficial to the participants. He exposed the participants to both ANSYS Mechanical APDL & ANSYS workbench and exquisitely explained why the engineers prefer ANSYS workbench over ANSYS Mechanical APDL. Er. Reji Zachariah gave an inspirational talk about the relevance of softwares in all engineering applications and he pinpointed, where the engineers currently stand and up to what extend they can grow as far as the future scopes of software development is concerned. Er. S. Suresh, Coordinator of the workshop explicated the FEM application in civil engineering at the simplest level. The highlight of the workshop was the ample hands on training provided by the resource person. In all aspects the workshop was a great advantage for the participants, especially for the M Tech students who are undertaking their thesis.
