ENIAC, the Computer Science and Engineering Association at AISAT, conducted a workshop on “Python” titled as “Getting started with Python” on 8th and 9th July 2015, at the Programming lab, for the 3rd Semester Computer Science and Engineering students. The workshop was handled by Mr. Harikrishnan M, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Ms. Sara Renjit, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Python is a widely used general-purpose, high-level programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability, and its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java. The language provides fewer constructs intended to enable clear programs on both a small and large scale. Python supports different programming paradigms such as object oriented and functional programming styles. It features an automatic memory management and dynamic type system and has a large and comprehensive standard library. It is platform independent, easy to use and is often known as a “glue” language as it can be integrated with other programming languages easily. Python programming, is usually referred to as “Programming at the speed of thought”.

python_workshop

Python is widely used by most of the Multi-National Corporations such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, IBM and HP, along with internationally recognized organizations such as NASA. Popular video game developers such as Electronic Arts also makes good use of Python.

This workshop aimed at providing a solid base in Python programming for the students, which can later be nurtured, developed and build upon by them. The students were also encouraged to visualize their own ideas by writing and developing programs on their own, while providing proper support and guidance.
