The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or “things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The Internet of Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure.

IMG_1254 Under the banner of EACE an introductory session was handled by Mr. Shahim Baker for S5 and S3 students of Dept. of ECE on the basics of IOT and its overwhelming opportunities. The students were introduced to how technology opens up the prospects of their life and how oriented they are towards these changes. Follow up activities will cut new roads for the holistic development of the students.

Since the inception of Geotechnical engineering laboratory, all the faculties, students and associated lab staff have dynamically contributed for the progress of the laboratory. The laboratory caters to the needs of graduate as well as post graduate (Goemechanics & structures) students of the civil engineering department. The laboratory is well equipped to execute all the necessary soil tests along with several advanced testing facilities. The facilities provided in the laboratory are such that it can undertake consultancy works. The vision of this division is to utilize the state-of-the art knowledge for solving problems related to subsurface. The results from geotechnical engineering laboratory are critical in determining the engineering behavior that are relevant to a particular project considered, assessing risks posed by site conditions; designing earthworks and foundations. There are different physical, chemical and geotechnical properties determined in the laboratory that is required for identifying the subsurface. This information is used by geotechnical engineer for designing the type of foundations, earthworks such as dams, embankments, tunnels, reservoirs, pavement subgrades, and specialized applications like waste containment systems. The preciseness of such design is entirely based on the experimental information obtained from a geotechnical laboratory. Therefore, geotechnical engineering laboratory has a great role to play in rendering the subsurface a safe and stable load bearing medium

Material testing laboratory familiarizes the students with the testing procedure of materials used in civil engineering discipline like – cement, aggregate, concrete, steel timber, bricks etc. The need for compliance with current standards and specifications for materials is also stressed in the course. The laboratory facilities are provided in such a way that it gives a clear understanding of the behavior of the materials namely the physical properties, mechanical properties; suitability of material for use in construction, material selection code provisions, etc. This knowledge is of paramount importance in order to establish the relationship between material properties and the overall behavior of a structure. The need for compliance with current standards and specifications for materials will be understood through tests on materials. The state of art facilities for concrete mix design and material testing are being utilized by various construction companies through the consultancy cell. The material testing laboratory is designed to serve the research works in concrete technology.
